Volleyball Recap: Mount Mercy Academy Takes a Loss

If Mount Mercy Academy was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Cardinal O'Hara on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Magic fell just short of the Mount St. Mary Academy Thunder by a score of 3-2 on Thursday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Thunder this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-0 back in September.

In a back-and-forth that saw neither team win consecutive sets, Mount Mercy Academy sadly dropped the once that decided the match. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-12, 23-25, 25-11, 22-25, 15-8.

Taylor Ferris paced Mount Mercy Academy's offense, picking up ten kills. Ferris got some help from Mara McCrea and her 23 assists. Ferris was also solid from the service line: she led the team with five aces.

Mount Mercy Academy dropped their record down to 2-15 with the loss, which was their eighth straight on the road. As for Mount St. Mary Academy, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 11-10-1.

Looking ahead, after both having extra time off, Mount Mercy Academy and Nichols will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court against one another at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Mount St. Mary Academy, they will welcome Cardinal O'Hara at 6:00 p.m. on the 17th.
