Soccer Game Preview: Duchesne vs. Mercy

Duchesne is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Monday. They will challenge the Mercy Monarchs at 7:15 p.m. Duchesne will be strutting in after a victory while Mercy will be coming in after a loss.

Duchesne took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They walked away with a 3-1 win over Gross Catholic. Duchesne haven't had any issues with Gross Catholic recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.

Josie Quattrocchi was the driving force of Duchesne's attack as she scored all three of Duchesne's goals, bringing her season total up to 21 goals.

Meanwhile, Mercy faced Skutt Catholic in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Monarchs fell just short of the SkyHawks by a score of 2-1. Having soared to a lofty five goals in the game before, Mercy couldn't push the score so high this time.

Duchesne pushed their record up to 10-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up one goal over those three contests. As for Mercy, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-3.

Duchesne suffered a grim 5-1 defeat to Mercy when the teams last played back in April. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Cardinals were down 4-0.
