Softball Recap: Junction City Comes Up Short

Junction City extended their losing streak to five on Thursday, dropping them down to 2-9. They lost 14-4 to the Harmony Grove Cardinals. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Dragons of the 10-6 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2025.

Zamya Cunningham made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. She also put up two RBI, which were her first of the season.

As for Harmony Grove, they pushed their record up to 10-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The result was nothing new for the Cardinals, who have now won nine matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

On Harmony Grove's side, Macee Tidwell spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks. Tidwell has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Abbi Andres, who went 3-for-5 with two triples, three runs, and one stolen base. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cadi Urban, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Looking ahead, Junction City will welcome Fordyce at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Harmony Grove, they will head out to challenge Perryville at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Mustangs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.63 runs per game on average), something the Cardinals will no doubt try to take advantage of.
