Basketball Recap: Rich Township's Higher State Rank on Full Display on Saturday

Rich Township won the last time they faced Hillcrest and things went their way on Saturday too. The Rich Township Raptors came out on top against the Hillcrest Hawks by a score of 70-63. Given the Raptors' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 20th, while the Hawks are ranked 91st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Jayden Williams was his usual excellent self, putting up 18 points and six assists. Another player making a difference was Al Brooks, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten boards.

Rich Township smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.

Rich Township's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-7. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.0 points over those games. As for Hillcrest, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 17-9.

Coming up, Rich Township will head out on the road to square off against Thornton at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Rich Township is facing Thornton at the right time seeing as Thornton is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Hillcrest, they will face off against Lemont at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Lemont knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven games -- so hopefully Hillcrest likes a good challenge.
