Preview: Sumter Gamecocks vs. St. James Sharks
Sumter is 6-0 against St. James since February of 2021, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. Both teams will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 19th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Sumter sitting on three straight victories and St. James on six.
Last Tuesday, Sumter was able to grind out a solid victory over Carolina Forest, taking the game 56-46.
Meanwhile, St. James can now show off six landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Saturday. They blew past Carvers Bay 67-41. Given St. James' advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 20th, while Carvers Bay is ranked 163rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Sumter's win bumped their record up to 9-10. As for St. James, their win was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-1.
Sumter strolled past St. James in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 by a score of 45-30. Does Sumter have another victory up their sleeve, or will St. James turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
