Baseball Recap: Archbishop Williams Bishops vs. Bishop Stang Spartans
Archbishop Williams had lost three straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 7-11-1 to make it four. They took a 15-11 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bishop Stang Spartans. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Spartans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-3 back in April.
As for Bishop Stang, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
For Bishop Stang's part, Dom Cipollini looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. The dominant performance also gave Cipollini a new career-high in strikeouts (four).
At the plate, Bishop Stang let Amir Cartagena and Brock Winslow run wild. Cartagena got on base in four of his six plate appearances with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs, while Winslow went 1-for-5 with five stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI. Bishop Stang is undefeated when Winslow posts two or more stolen bases, but 6-7 otherwise. Aaron Moreira also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Looking ahead, Archbishop Williams will square off against Stoughton at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Bishop Stang, they will face off against Sandwich at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
