Soccer Game Preview: Martin vs. Mission

The Martin Tigers will face off against the Mission Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Mission took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Martin, who comes in off a win.

Mission better have a healthy lead at halftime, because if last week is any indication, that's when Martin really get things going. Martin's defense stepped up to hand Mission Veterans Memorial a 3-0 shutout on Tuesday. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas soccer rankings (they are ranked 274th, while the Patriots are ranked 692nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Mission entered their match against Nixon on Friday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. Mission fell just short of Nixon by a score of 1-0. Having soared to a lofty eight goals in the game before, the Eagles' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Mission now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Martin, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season.
