Volleyball Recap: Hinsdale South Hornets vs. Downers Grove South Mustangs

Hinsdale South was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell just short of the Downers Grove South Mustangs by a score of 2-1. The Hornets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mustangs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2023.

In a back-and-forth that saw neither team win consecutive sets, Hinsdale South sadly dropped the once that decided the match. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-21, 26-28, 25-11.

Despite the loss, Hinsdale South still got an impressive performance from Katarina Damis, who had 15 digs and two aces. Damis is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 11 or more in the last three games she's played.

Even though they lost, Hinsdale South was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 11 aces. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Downers Grove South only served seven.

Downers Grove South got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Leah Blaylock out in front who had five aces. The dominant performance gave Blaylock a new career-high in aces. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Dalton, who had nine digs.

Hinsdale South's defeat dropped their record down to 14-17. As for Downers Grove South, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 22-10 record this season.

Hinsdale South has already played their next contest, a 2-1 loss against Hinsdale Central on the 23rd. As for Downers Grove South, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 2-1 defeat against Lockport on the 23rd.
