Baseball Preview: San Ysidro Cougars vs. Otay Ranch Mustangs

San Ysidro is 2-7 against Otay Ranch since May of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Cougars will venture away from home to face off against the Mustangs at 3:30 p.m.

Thursday just wasn't the day for San Ysidro's offense. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Bonita Vista on Thursday. While getting shut out isn't ideal, the Cougars haven't been shut out since back in March.

Meanwhile, Otay Ranch came into Friday's contest having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. Everything went their way against Mater Dei Catholic on Friday as they made off with an 11-3 victory. Considering the Mustangs have won seven matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Otay Ranch gave Orlando Sivilla the start and clearly made the right call: he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

At the plate, Jonny Sanchez was excellent, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Erik Langarica, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.

San Ysidro's loss dropped their record down to 7-13. As for Otay Ranch, their win bumped their record up to 14-7.

San Ysidro was able to grind out a solid victory over Otay Ranch in their previous matchup back in February of 2022, winning 8-5.
