Baseball Game Preview: Greenway Demons vs. Bradshaw Mountain Bears

The Greenway Demons will venture away from home to challenge the Bradshaw Mountain Bears at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

While Demons fans will have to keep waiting for their team to come home, they shouldn't be too worried about the road trip considering the result of Wednesday's season opener. They walked away with a 9-5 win over Buckeye on Wednesday.

Carson Gumm made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up five earned runs off five hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

In other batting news, Judah Semmier was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Trevor Myer, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Greenway always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .513. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March of 2024.

Meanwhile, Bradshaw Mountain was able to grind out a solid victory over Paradise Valley on Thursday, taking the game 6-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bears.

Like Greenway, Bradshaw Mountain also got a great game from a two-way player: Isaiah Avila. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just one earned run off nine hits. What's more, Avila posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.

Avila wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Nitesh Patel, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave Patel a new career-high in RBI (two).

Greenway might still be hurting after the 13-0 loss they got from Bradshaw Mountain in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can Greenway avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
