Volleyball Game Preview: Wakeland Wolverines vs. Reedy Lions

The Wakeland Wolverines will head out to challenge the Reedy Lions at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Reedy took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Wakeland, who comes in off a win.

Wakeland had to skate by with only a one-set margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the three-set drubbing they dealt Turner on Tuesday. The Wolverines blew past the Lions 3-0. The Wolverines haven't had any issues with the Lions recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.

The 3-0 score doesn't show just how dominant Wakeland was: they took every set by at least 17 points. The final score came out to 25-7, 25-6, 25-8.

Madeline Chen was a one-woman wrecking crew as she had ten digs and eight aces. Those eight aces gave her a new career-high. Jacey Rogers was another key player, getting three digs and two aces.

They weren't the only good servers: Wakeland was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 19 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least seven aces in six consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, after a string of seven wins, Reedy's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell just short of Highland Park by a score of 3-2.

Reedy wouldn't go down easily and took Highland Park into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking four-point loss. The match finished with set scores of 26-28, 25-18, 21-25, 25-11, 15-11.

Reedy's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 16-9. As for Wakeland, their record is now 19-6.
