Football Game Preview: Elgin/Pope John Wolfpack vs. Overton Eagles

The Elgin/Pope John Wolfpack will head out to take on the Overton Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Elgin/Pope John will be strutting in after a win while Overton will be coming in after a loss.

Elgin/Pope John will bounce into Thursday's matchup after beating Ainsworth, who they had gone 0-3 against in their three prior meetings. The Wolfpack took their contest on Friday with ease, bagging a 48-7 victory over the Bulldogs. With the Wolfpack ahead 22-0 at the half, the game was all but over already.

Elgin/Pope John didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jarek Erickson and Gavin Kallhoff.

Meanwhile, Overton unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They fell 44-34 to Loomis. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game two weeks ago (33), the Eagles still had to take the loss.

Elgin/Pope John will need to focus on slowing down Eli Luther, one of several Overton players who made an impact when they last played. He threw for 342 yards and five TDs while completing 73.3% of his passes. Luther also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, forcing one fumble and making 15 total tackles (1.0 for loss). Brock McCarter was in the mix as well, providing Overton with two scores.

Elgin/Pope John's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 46.7 points over those games. As for Overton, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-3.
