Softball Recap: Holy Cross Snags Seventh Victory in Last Eight Games

20 must be Holy Cross's lucky number: they beat Saint Mary's Hall with that score not once but twice on Tuesday. The Knights beat the Barons by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 20-4. Considering the Knights have won ten games by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Genesis Medrano was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed four innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Medrano was even better at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.

In other batting news, Leena Garcia was a standout: she scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Kamila Mendoza, who went 3-for-4 with one home run and five RBI.

Holy Cross was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .731. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .310 or higher in eight consecutive contests.

Holy Cross has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-5-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.9 runs over those games. As for Saint Mary's Hall, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 13-7-1.

Looking ahead, Holy Cross is taking a road trip to square off against Jourdanton at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Indians/Squaws will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something the Knights surely won't give up without a fight. As for Saint Mary's Hall, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 3-2 win against Providence Catholic on the 15th.
