Softball Recap: Johnson's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Monday

Johnson dropped their record down to 12-3 on Monday, which also ended the team's seven-game streak of wins. They took a 14-10 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Armijo Royals. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Royals this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-4 back in March.

Anissa Zavala made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Naomi Quiroz was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four RBI and one double.

As for Armijo, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.2 runs over those games.

On Armijo's side, Brooklyn Talbot made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits (and not a single walk). With that strong performance, Talbot is now averaging an impressive 5.2 strikeouts per game. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with six RBI, three runs, and two doubles. She has been hot, having posted three or more hits the last six times she's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Angel Arias, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and one RBI. Virginia Obando also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Johnson didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, an 18-2 win against Florin on the 30th. As for Armijo, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 1-0 victory against Valley on the 30th.
