Softball Recap: Valencia Takes a Loss

Valencia couldn't beat Kennedy on Monday even though they stacked five runs on them in the first inning. The Vikings fell just short of the Golden Cougars by a score of 9-8. While the Vikings didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Golden Cougars 5-0 in the first period.

Blair Rune led a balanced group of hitters, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI. That triple was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Madison Stanchfield, who went 3-for-4 with one home run and one double.

Valencia has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-9 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Kennedy, the win got them back to even at 9-9.

Valencia didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 19-0 victory against Golden Valley on the 5th. As for Kennedy, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Arleta at 3:30 p.m.
