Baseball Recap: Santa Teresa Starts Season with Victory Against Cobre

Santa Teresa took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Cobre Indians with a sharp 10-0 victory. The Desert Warriors haven't had any issues with the Indians recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Gavin Garcia was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Garcia was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Marcos Rivera looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Jackson Simpson, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Ardon Luna was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

Santa Teresa always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cobre only posted an OBP of .286.

Looking ahead, Santa Teresa will take on Gadsden at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The last three games Gadsden has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Cobre, they will square off against Chaparral at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
