Baseball Recap: Ellis Comes Up Short

Ellis extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 6-5 in the process. They came up short against the Kinsley Coyotes, falling 10-4. The Railroaders were not able to make up for their defeat to the Coyotes from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Aiden Aschenbrenner made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Ellis' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-2 (and 2-3 when he doesn't).

As for Kinsley, they pushed their record up to 8-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games.

On Kinsley's side, Woodrow Lancaster was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Lancaster was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Diego Esparza, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double. Another player making a difference was Joshua Stuckey, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Ellis beat Kinsley by a score of 14-4 later that day.
