Softball Game Preview: Montague Wildcats vs. Allendale Falcons

The Montague Wildcats will face off against the Allendale Falcons at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Montague is coming into the game on a six-game losing streak.

The home team had come away the winner the last three times Montague and Fruitport had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Wildcats came up short against the Trojans on Wednesday, falling 17-4.

Montague saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Chloe Boutell, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, Allendale got the win against Cedar Springs on Tuesday by a conclusive 17-7. The Falcons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by eight runs or more this season.

Lexie Gunter was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted over her last 11 contests. Another player making a difference was Tessa Gunter, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Allendale was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .655. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive games.

Allendale is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-13 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Montague, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-17.

Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Montague hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .354. However, it's not like Allendale struggles in that department as they've averaged .374. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
