Softball Recap: Hackensack Takes a Loss

After flying high against Northern Highlands on Monday, Hackensack came back down to earth. The Comets lost 19-8 to the Ridgewood Maroons on Wednesday. The Comets were not able to make up for their defeat to the Maroons from their previous meeting back in April of 2025.

Briana Darling and Giada Oates stepped up to the plate in a big way. Darling went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases and three runs, while Oates went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Darling is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last 15 games she's played dating back to last season. Janae Neal was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Hackensack has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-4-1 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Ridgewood, their victory bumped their record up to 2-4.

Looking ahead, Hackensack will welcome Ramapo at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. As for Ridgewood, they will face off against Northern Highlands at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. The Maroons will need to watch out since the Highlanders have now posted at least ten runs in their last three games.
