SAN CLEMENTE, Calif. - The defense contributed on the scoring end for
Mission Viejo (Calif.) on Saturday, totaling 12 points as the Diablos bested San Clemente (Calif.) 70-17.
After taking the lead on a touchdown in the first quarter, the Diablos led 35-17 at the half.
Mission Viejo expanded its lead to 39 points entering the fourth quarter. MV scored three times in the third, including once on a touchdown run by
Alex Suchesk.
Even though the Diablos led by 39 points at the start of the fourth quarter, they didn't let up, scoring 14 in the quarter.
Ian Fieber was the top performer for Mission Viejo. The senior quarterback threw three touchdowns.
Coming into the game MV had allowed 21.5 points per game this year. The defense really stepped up, holding the Tritons below their season average of 21.0 points scored per game.
In a South Coast game next week San Clemente (2-6) takes on Tesoro, and Mission Viejo (7-0) will go up against Tesoro also in a South Coast game.
