Softball Game Preview: Greene Central Rams vs. Southside Seahawks

Greene Central is 0-5 against Southside since March of 2023 but things could change on Wednesday. The Rams will head out on the road to square off against the Seahawks at 5:00 p.m. Greene Central has given up an average of 15.5 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Greene Central is headed into Wednesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 38th straight game dating back to last season on Tuesday. They came up short against West Craven, falling 19-0.

Southside hadn't beaten Lejeune on the road since April 22, 2016 but that history sure didn't bother them on Tuesday. The Seahawks never let the Devil Pups get on the board and left with a 12-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Seahawks, who have now won five contests by ten runs or more so far this season.

Carolina Crisp made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in February. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Lily McLean was a standout: she scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. She has been hot for a while, having posted at least one stolen base the last 13 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Emily Mondragon, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.

Southside kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lejeune only managed three hits.

Greene Central's loss dropped their record down to 0-17. As for Southside, their win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 6-7-1.

Greene Central might still be hurting after the 16-3 defeat they got from Southside in their previous matchup two weeks ago. Can the Rams avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
