Basketball Recap: Marilina Lopez's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Lorenzo over O'donnell

After flying high against Wilson last Tuesday, Lorenzo came back down to earth. The Lorenzo Hornets took a 51-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of the O'Donnell Eagles on Friday. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hornets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 50-45 back in January.

Several Hornets players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Marilina Lopez, who posted six points in addition to 13 boards and four steals. Lopez has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 13 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kymberlyn Chavez, who had five points.

Even though they lost, Lorenzo smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in three consecutive matches.

Lorenzo moved to 13-9 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for O'Donnell, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-15.

Lorenzo has already played their next contest, a 55-35 win against Petersburg on the 28th. As for O'Donnell, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 55-34 victory against Crosbyton on the 28th.
