Recap: Manteo Redskins vs. Hertford County Bears
The Manteo Redskins''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They were dealt a 42-0 loss at the hands of Hertford County. While losing is never fun, Manteo can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 390th, while Hertford County is ranked 101st).
Elijah Outlaw was the offensive standout of the game as he rushed for 114 yards and two touchdowns. Outlaw really tore up the turf during one magnificent 80-yard run. Another player making a difference was Jordan Staton, who rushed for 81 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries.
Manteo's loss was their seventh straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 1-9. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 9-3 Northeastern and 7-3 Currituck County (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 57.1% over those games). As for Hertford County, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-2.
Manteo will head out on the road to face off against Camden County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Camden County is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak. As for Hertford County, they will be playing at home against Holmes at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Holmes is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
