Softball Recap: Baraboo Find Success

While Baraboo's win against Sauk Prairie wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Thunderbirds narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Eagles 8-7. The Thunderbirds haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Taytum Poker made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched seven innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off 11 hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Baraboo let Zeva Valley and Stella Cognac run wild. Valley went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs, while Cognac went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Those three hits gave Cognac a new career-high. Liana Klemm was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

The victory got Baraboo back to even at 9-9. As for Sauk Prairie, they are on a 22-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-21.

Baraboo and Sauk Prairie could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Wisconsin Rankings. The Thunderbirds (ranked 217th) will meet Beaver Dam (ranked 73rd) at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Sauk Prairie will take on Dodgeville at 5:00 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (352 vs. 47).
