Volleyball Game Preview: Saugus Sachems vs. Swampscott Big Blue

Saugus hasn't had much luck against Swampscott recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Sachems will head out to square off against the Big Blue at 4:30 p.m. Saugus is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games.

Saugus will bounce into Thursday's matchup after beating Lynn English, who they had gone 1-6 against in their seven prior meetings. The Sachems put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 3-0 win on Thursday.

Saugus' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Maria Silva, who had 11 digs. Silva has been hot, having posted ten or more digs the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Agatha Gomes, who had three digs and three aces.

Meanwhile, Swampscott made easy work of Chelsea on Friday and carried off a 3-0 win.

Swampscott walked away with the victory (and looked especially good in the first set). The final score came out to 25-12, 25-17, 25-17.

Saugus better focus on containing Marta Sirota and Hayden Haskell as the pair were huge in Swampscott's win. Sirota had five digs and two aces, while Haskell had eight digs.

The win got Saugus back to even at 10-10. As for Swampscott, their record now sits at 14-6.

Saugus came up short against Swampscott in their previous meeting two weeks ago, falling 3-1. Can the Sachems avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
