Softball Game Preview: Cedarcrest Red Wolves vs. Highline Pirates

The Cedarcrest Red Wolves will square off against the Highline Pirates at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Cedarcrest knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Highline likes a good challenge.

Cedarcrest is returning to their home field after beating Interlake on theirs, despite the fact Interlake has dominated at home this season. The Red Wolves blew past the Saints 11-3 on Monday. The Red Wolves might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by eight runs or more this season.

Ryann Bottemiller was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Bottemiller was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kyle Watson, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games she's played. Josie Fiala was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three runs and one double.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 11 runs the game before, Highline was a bit more limited in their matchup on Monday. They lost 13-1 to Liberty. The contest marked the Pirates' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Cedarcrest's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-6. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.5 runs over those games. As for Highline, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season.

Cedarcrest got the 'W' when the teams last played last Friday against Highline by a conclusive 29-15 score. Do the Red Wolves have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Pirates turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
