Softball Recap: Kaneland Has No Trouble Against Oswego East

Oswego East typically has all the answers at home, but on Tuesday Kaneland proved too difficult a challenge. They put the hurt on the Wolves with a sharp 16-4 victory. The Knights have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Wolves, too.

Brynn Woods made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Angelina Campise was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted over her last 12 games. Another player making a difference was Addison Coulter, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three RBI and two runs.

Kaneland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .575. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Oswego East only posted an OBP of .304.

The win made it two in a row for Kaneland and bumps their season record up to 13-10. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games. As for Oswego East, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-10.

Coming up, Kaneland will take on Sycamore at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Spartans' pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so the Knights' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Oswego East, they will challenge Plainfield Central at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Wolves' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wildcats have averaged an impressive 7.4 runs per game this season.
