Basketball Game Preview: Miller Buccaneers vs. Corpus Christi Moody Trojans

The Miller Buccaneers will take on the Corpus Christi Moody Trojans in a holiday battle at at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Miller took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They managed a 44-40 win over King. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Buccaneers as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Miller's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Hailey Martinez, who posted 24 points, and Amorette Gallegos, who went 5 of 12 on her way to 11 points and six rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Martinez has scored at least a third of Miller's points.

Meanwhile, Corpus Christi Moody had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24.3 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They secured a 41-36 W over the Eagles. Given the Trojans' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 287th, while the Eagles are ranked 638th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Corpus Christi Moody has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.7 points per game. As for Miller, they now have a winning record of 11-10.

Everything came up roses for Miller against Corpus Christi Moody when the teams last played back in February, as the squad secured a 73-46 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Miller since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
