Football Recap: Pleasant Grove Gets the Win

While Pleasant Grove's victory against Tokay wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Eagles pulled ahead with a 14-13 photo finish over the Tigers on Friday. The Eagles' win was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.

Pleasant Grove was led to victory by Hekili Hernandez and Ivan Saeyang. Hernandez rushed for 169 yards and one TD, while Saeyang rushed for 63 yards on only eight carries. Those 169 rushing yards gave Hernandez a new career-high.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Pleasant Grove was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 247 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 223 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.

Amire Fleming and Jayden Barba certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Fleming gained 157 total yards and a touchdown, while Barba threw for 170 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Fleming is also crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 136 every time he's taken the field this season.

Pleasant Grove's victory bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Tokay, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pleasant Grove will welcome Lincoln at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Tokay, they will be playing in front of their home fans against McNair at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. The matchup will give the Tigers their first taste of in-conference action this season.
