Softball Game Preview: St. Bernard's Crusaders vs. Modoc Braves

The St. Bernard's Crusaders will challenge the Modoc Braves at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.

St. Bernard's will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Tuesday, then bounced right back against Portola on Friday. St. Bernard's put the hurt on Portola with a sharp 14-2 win. The victory was some much needed relief for the Crusaders as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

St. Bernard's let Sahara Tupua and Makinsey Lemley run wild. Tupua scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4, while Lemley scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances. That's the most runs Tupua has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kyna Tupua, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-5.

St. Bernard's always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .524. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Modoc made easy work of Loyalton on Friday and carried off a 9-3 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Braves.

Caelli DePaul was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. DePaul was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season.

In other batting news, Aaliyah Sevilla was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2. Those stolen bases were her first of the season. Vivian Huang was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

The victory got Modoc back to even at 2-2. As for St. Bernard's, their record now sits at 2-3.
