Baseball Game Preview: Maricopa Rams vs. Mountain Pointe Pride

The Maricopa Rams will face off against the Mountain Pointe Pride at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

On Wednesday, Maricopa came up short against Catalina Foothills and fell 5-1. The defeat continues a trend for the Rams in their meetings with the Falcons: they've now lost three in a row.

Maricopa saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Travis Varela, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Mountain Pointe was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They fell 6-2 to Notre Dame Prep.

Mountain Pointe also got a good showing from Ja'Kyn Thurman, who tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Thurman has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Kai Klepfer was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two runs. That home run marked the first that he launched this season.

Maricopa's defeat dropped their record down to 6-12. As for Mountain Pointe, their loss dropped their record down to 6-14.
