Softball Game Preview: Murray Tigers vs. Calloway County Lakers

Murray is 2-8 against Calloway County since April of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Tigers will be playing at home against the Lakers at 5:30 p.m. Murray has given up an average of 15.2 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Murray fell victim to Trigg County and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They lost 19-0 to the Wildcats. The Tigers just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Calloway County). They blew past Mayfield 13-3 on Thursday. The Lakers haven't had any issues with the Cardinals recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Hailee Jones made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in May of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Audrey Overbey, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Laynee Houk, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Calloway County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Calloway County's win bumped their record up to 3-22. As for Murray, their loss dropped their record down to 2-14.
