Preview: Mendez Jaguars vs. Bernstein Dragons
The Mendez Jaguars will head out on the road to challenge the Bernstein Dragons at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Mendez has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Mendez posted their biggest victory yet this season on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Belmont with a sharp 57-37 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Mendez has posted against Belmont since November 17, 2021.
Even though Bernstein has not done well against Hollywood recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Bernstein secured a 50-46 W over Hollywood. Given Bernstein's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 466th, while Hollywood is ranked 1061st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mendez's record is now 6-9. As for Bernstein, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season.
Mendez was dealt a bruising 88-43 defeat at the hands of Bernstein in their previous matchup back in November of 2023. The game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Mendez was down 57-18.
