Los Lunas faced La Cueva in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Tigers took a 9-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bears. The Tigers' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

JJ Utash was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Utash wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Allen Galaviz, who went 1-for-3 with one run.

Los Lunas' defeat dropped their record down to 12-8. As for La Cueva, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season.
