League recap: No. 1 Paonia defeats No. 2 Rangely to stay on top

2A Western Slope league recap: 5/7/12

The league's top two teams in the standings locked horns this week, as Paonia took home a 17-3 victory over Rangely on May 5, 2012. Paonia is now in first place at 8-0 in 2A Western Slope and 16-5 overall.

The Eagles (16-5, 8-0) have won eight games in a row, the league's longest active win streak. Three of those wins came in the past week, includinga 14-2 victory over Ignacio. Michael Wilmore's hot bat led the team this week, as he racked up zero hits and zero RBIs.

Rangely's pitching was especially stingy this week, allowing 32 hits and 13 walks to lead the league in both categories. The Panthers's pitchers have been charged with only 132 hits and have struck out 156 batters. Kody Denny is tops on the staff with 93 Ks.
