The La Costa Canyon Mavericks will venture away from home to challenge the Carlsbad Lancers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
On Friday, La Costa Canyon made easy work of El Camino and carried off a 36-14 win. The Mavericks' offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.

La Costa Canyon's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Quinn Roth led the charge by throwing for 268 yards and four TDs while completing 77.8% of his passes. The dominant performance also gave Roth a new career-high in passer rating (158.6). Coby Herman also helped with two touchdowns in total.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something La Costa Canyon proved: they limited El Camino to a paltry three yards per carry. While 13 picked up at least one total tackle, Jackson Maggiore stood above the rest. He picked up 135 receiving yards and one score. The dominant display was nothing new: La Costa Canyon has now limited their opponent to fewer and fewer yards per carry in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, on Friday Carlsbad's undefeated season almost came to an end. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 31-28 victory over San Marcos. 31 seems to be a good number for the Lancers as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.
Carlsbad's win came from a few key players La Costa Canyon will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Darian Webb, who rushed for 80 yards and one TD, and also picked up 58 receiving yards and one touchdown. Eli MacNeal was another key player, throwing for 233 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 75% of his passes.
La Costa Canyon's record now sits at 7-1. As for Carlsbad, their record is now 8-0.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. La Costa Canyon has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 180.9 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Carlsbad struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 181.6 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
La Costa Canyon was able to grind out a solid victory over Carlsbad in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, winning 21-11. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mavericks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
