Softball Recap: Ashley Triumphs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against New Bern, Ashley was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They had just enough and edged out the Southwest Onslow Stallions 14-13. The high-scoring effort was just what the Screaming Eagle needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.

Saylor Cross made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Cross was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Laina Toudle was a standout: she fired off two home runs and five RBI while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Skyler Horrell, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple.

Ashley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .432. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Southwest Onslow only posted a batting average of .242.

The win got Ashley back to even at 1-1.

Looking ahead, Ashley will head out to take on Lumberton at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Southwest Onslow, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Northside - Jacksonville at 6:00 p.m.
