Baseball Recap: Lamar Comes Up Short

Lamar extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 21-4. They took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hartfield Academy Hawks. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Hawks this season, with their most recent loss being a 6-2 defeat on Thursday.

Luke Brady made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run.

As for Hartfield Academy, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 20-6-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games.

On Hartfield Academy's side, Aden Bell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on one hit and racked up ten Ks. Those ten strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Bell.

On the hitting side, Henry Abt was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Ken Shelton, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Looking ahead, Lamar will welcome Starkville Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Volunteers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so the Raiders' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Hartfield Academy, they are taking a road trip to take on East Rankin Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
