Preview: Telesis Prep Tigers vs. Thunderbird Adventist Academy
The Telesis Prep Tigers will be home for the holidays to greet Thunderbird Adventist Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The timing isn't great for Telesis Prep: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Thunderbird Adventist Academy has snatched up three consecutive wins on the road.
Last Monday, Telesis Prep had to suffer through a rough 67-36 loss at the hands of New Way Learning Academy. While losing is never fun, Telesis Prep can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 228th, while New Way Learning Academy is ranked 98th).
Thunderbird Adventist Academy has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four contests by 24 points or more this season. Everything went their way against Brighton Charter on Wednesday as Thunderbird Adventist Academy made off with a 61-37 win. The team accrued 51 points in the first half and coasted on those for the win.
Thunderbird Adventist Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gideon Orellana, who scored 20 points along with six steals. The matchup was Orellana's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ronnie Garcia, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds and three steals.
Telesis Prep's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Thunderbird Adventist Academy, their win bumped their record up to 5-1.
