Football Recap: Mayfield Skates Past Firestone with Ease

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mayfield). They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat the Firestone Falcons 50-8. With the Wildcats ahead 42-0 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

Mayfield's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ben Koret, who rushed for 70 yards and one TD on only seven carries.

Koret was just one part of a punishing run game: Mayfield was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 201 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Mayfield now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Firestone, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mayfield will venture away from home to square off against South at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup will give the Wildcats their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Firestone, they will square off against Buchtel at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Falcons will be up against the Griffins' rather soft defense (which has allowed 32 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
