Baseball Game Preview: Paul Laurence Dunbar Bulldogs vs. Boyd County Lions

The Paul Laurence Dunbar Bulldogs will challenge the Boyd County Lions at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Paul Laurence Dunbar has now lost 14 straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since April 15.

Paul Laurence Dunbar couldn't beat Mercer County on Friday even though they stacked four runs on them in the first inning. The Bulldogs took a 9-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Titans.

Teppei Nagano made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases and one run. Another player making a difference was Steven Estepp, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one run.

Meanwhile, after only one run in their last matchup, Boyd County made sure to put some runs up on the board against Simon Kenton on Friday. The Lions put the hurt on the Pioneers with a sharp 16-3 win. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 games by six runs or more this season.

Boyd County has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 19 of their last 20 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Paul Laurence Dunbar, their loss dropped their record down to 8-23.

Paul Laurence Dunbar suffered a grim 12-0 defeat to Boyd County in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Bulldogs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
