Basketball Recap: Phoenix Day School for the Deaf's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Phoenix Day School for the Deaf came into Friday's game having lost six straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They came out on top against the Arizona School for the Deaf & Blind Sentinels by a score of 39-32 on Friday. This was a revenge game for the Roadrunners: when they faced off against the Sentinels last Saturday, they had to take a 47-46 defeat.

Phoenix Day School for the Deaf's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Donovan Etheridge, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds. That's the most points Etheridge has posted since back in December of 2023. Franchesco Yesuf was another key player, putting up 15 points and three steals.

Phoenix Day School for the Deaf smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Despite the loss, Arizona School for the Deaf & Blind saw an underclassman step up: freshman Irving Arizmendi dropped a double-double on 18 points and 16 rebounds.

Phoenix Day School for the Deaf's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Arizona School for the Deaf & Blind, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-5.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Colorado School for the Deaf Blind the next time they take the court. Arizona School for the Deaf & Blind will head out to face Colorado School for the Deaf Blind at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, while Phoenix Day School for the Deaf will head out to face them on Saturday.
