Softball Recap: Taylor Comes Up Short

Taylor had lost nine straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 7-14 to make it ten. They came up short against the Riverview Pirates, falling 17-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Pirates this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-0 on Friday.

As for Riverview, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-7-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games.

For Riverview's part, Olivia Salinas made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Salinas has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Ella Vinco was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Megan Southward, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Taylor will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Jefferson at 10:00 a.m. As for Riverview, they will head out on the road to take on Grosse Ile at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Red Devils have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.57 runs per game on average), something the Pirates will no doubt try to take advantage of.
