Baseball Recap: Kolbe-Cathedral Comes Up Short

Kolbe-Cathedral extended their losing streak to four on Monday, dropping their season record down to 5-4 in the process. They took a 10-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pomperaug Panthers. The Cougars were not able to make up for their defeat to the Panthers from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Miguel Colon was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Kolbe-Cathedral: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-3 otherwise.

As for Pomperaug, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-7. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Pomperaug's side, Brayden Cloutier tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits.

On the hitting side, Pomperaug got a big performance out of Noah Pane, who went 1-for-4 with four stolen bases and two runs. With that strong performance, Pane is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game. Another player making a difference was Louis Nevadamski, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Kolbe-Cathedral will head out on the road to challenge Newtown at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Pomperaug, they will host Naugatuck at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Greyhounds have averaged an impressive 7.9 runs per game this season.
