Basketball Recap: Stafford Comes Up Short

Stafford suffered their biggest defeat since December 12, 2024 on Thursday. They were dealt a 69-38 loss at the hands of the Cunningham Wildcats. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 304th, while the Wildcats are ranked 73rd).

Cunningham was led to victory by Will Wegerer and Luke Albers. Wegerer almost dropped a double-double with 22 points and nine assists, while Albers went 7-for-17 en route to 18 points along with seven boards and five steals. Wegerer has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 13 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Kendall Rogers, who posted six points and five steals.

Stafford has traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last 12 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season. The victory keeps them at an undefeated 19-0.

Stafford didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 50-41 win against Attica on the 21st. As for Cunningham, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 77-56 victory against Pretty Prairie on the 21st.
