Baseball Recap: Grantsville Takes Down Union in a Playoff Battle

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Grantsville walked away with it. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Union Cougars on Tuesday, sneaking past 7-6. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent victory being a 8-7 win two weeks ago.

Grantsville let Easton Webb and Easton Hammond run wild. Webb got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run and one RBI, while Hammond got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Hammond has become a key player for Grantsville: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 9-12 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Krue Warren, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Grantsville is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-12 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.2 runs over those games. As for Union, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 21-8.

As of now, neither Grantsville nor the Cougars have any future games scheduled.
