Basketball Recap: Coal City Comes Up Short

Coal City suffered their closest defeat since February 15th on Thursday. They fell just short of the Westmont Sentinels by a score of 32-29. The Coalers were probably out for revenge after losing 49-47 to them when the teams met back in December of 2022, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Payeton Pickens was the offensive standout of the match as she posted 18 points.

Coal City has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-5 record this season. As for Westmont, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-3.

Coal City didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 42-32 win against Rosary on the 27th. As for Westmont, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 64-32 loss against St. Edward on the 27th.
