Volleyball Recap: Overton Comes Up Short

If Overton was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Loomis on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Eagles came up short against the Amherst Broncos on Tuesday, falling 3-0. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Broncos this season, with their most recent defeat being a 3-1 loss two weeks ago.

While Overton was not able to make it on the board, they still kept things close, especially in the third set. The final score came out to 25-16, 25-16, 25-22.

Gracen Hughes paced Overton's offense, picking up 12 kills. Hughes got some help from Kyla Elfgren and her 31 assists. Finally, Hughes was also a dominant defender, finishing with a team-high two blocks.

Amherst can attribute much of their success to Breckyn Layne Veskerna, who had 13 digs and two assists. Layne Veskerna is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 13 or more in each of the last four games she's played.

Overton has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 25-5 record this season. As for Amherst, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 24-5.

Overton has already played their next matchup, a 3-0 win against Wauneta-Palisade on the 1st. As for Amherst, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 3-0 victory against Niobrara/Verdigre on the 1st.
