Volleyball Game Preview: Avon Eagles vs. Steele Comets

After both having extra time off, the Avon Eagles and the Steele Comets will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court against one another at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Avon is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They blew past North 3-0. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Eagles.

The match finished with set scores of 25-11, 25-16, 25-8.

Meanwhile, Steele posted their closest victory since September 9th on Wednesday. They skirted past Walsh Jesuit 3-2. The Comets haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Avon better keep an eye on Dani Dury. She was instrumental in Steele's win, getting 18 digs and three aces. What's more, Dury posted five assists, the most she's had since back in September. Kendal Dobbins also deserves some recognition as she had her first blocks of the season.

Steele was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 13 aces. They are 9-1 when they serve at least ten aces.

Steele's victory bumped their record up to 15-9. As for Avon, their win bumped their record up to 23-1.

Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's contest: Avon has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 8.6 aces per game. However, it's not like Steele struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Avon took their victory against Steele in their previous meeting on October 2nd by a conclusive 3-0 score. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Comets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
