Softball Recap: Gretna Hawks vs. Jefferson Forest Cavaliers
Gretna had lost three straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 2-7 to make it four. They lost 11-0 to the Jefferson Forest Cavaliers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cavaliers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-0 back in March.
As for Jefferson Forest, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-1. Considering they have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
For Jefferson Forest's part, Kimber Spence made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Spence has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Ella Walker was excellent, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. Sarah Antrom also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gretna will challenge William Campbell at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Jefferson Forest, they will face off against Staunton River at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Golden Eagles will roll in looking for their tenth straight win, something the Cavaliers surely won't give up without a fight.
